No one gets to determine my future except me

I was out and about this weekend with Travis (my 14-year-old). When we walked into Target, we saw a Target worker, Barbie. I thought it was creative marketing, but Travis was offended. He asked if they had other career options. He thought they were slighting women by showing they could only work at stores.

To be fair this is " first-job skipper" and he missed that part since we walked by quickly. I said yes, of course, she has other careers defending the doll we grew up with. There's a long list, and they have a doctor, vet, and nurse. I think she was even an astronaut!! Travis, still not impressed, said well, it's bullcrap that they don't have a blue-collar trades Barbie. Girls like you and Margaret can do those things too. Where's Painter Barbie, welding Barbie, Diesel mechanic Barbie, Construction Barbie? 🤔🤔
I'm grateful I raised a son who sees that women should have as much opportunity as men. Girls should have as much inspiration as boys. I am thankful he watched me do unconventional things. That women fit in anywhere they want to. Now I will show him what a comeback looks like and that no one gets to determine my future except me ❤️🙌
** To be clear, neither I nor I think there is anything wrong with Barbie working at Target. He just wanted to know that she had all the options.
